Diagnostic Imaging

State-of-the-art digital medical imaging to examine and diagnose disease

General Information

Diagnostic Imaging at SHN

Scarborough Health Network (SHN) provides Diagnostic Imaging (DI) across our three hospitals. We offer a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to support inpatient and emergency programs, as well as referrals from outpatient clinics at the hospital and in the community.

As a support service, the DI department plays a vital role in providing timely and accurate investigations/interventions to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The department works collaboratively with all clinical programs to ensure the best outcomes for the patients we collectively serve.

Our team consists of highly trained and certified technologists, focused on providing a respectful, professional, and excellent patient care experience. The DI department is a teaching facility affiliated with The Michener Institute of Education at UHN; McMaster University/Mohawk College; Northern Alberta Institute of Technology; Algonquin College; Cambrian College; and Fanshawe College.

Performing TAVI CT scans

Our advanced CT machine allows us to perform TAVI CT scans and get high-quality images for mapping the heart. This helps to plan specialized valve replacement procedures.

Groundbreaking for new DI Department

SHN Foundation welcomed donors to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Department at our General Hospital.

Quality and Safety

Quality and Safety in Diagnostic Imaging (DI)

Diagnostic Imaging (DI) continuously pursues innovative solutions to meet the needs of each and every patient and achieve the highest quality of patient care.

We are committed to providing exceptional services while recognizing and respecting the diversity of the patients and other customers we serve.

Strategies are then developed to continually improve quality of care, enable equitable and timely access to services, further enhance patient safety, introduce advanced technology and equipment, create value for patients and their families, and promote clinical excellence.

How to keep you and your family safe during your visit:

  1. Wear your hospital ID bracelet while you are at the hospital.
  2. Let us know if you:
    • Have had a fall
    • Slip or trip in the last six months
    • Are worried about falling; have any problems with thinking or memory
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance.
  4. Promote infection control by using the hand sanitizer from the stations provided.
  5. Help us create a barrier free environment by identifying any entry, exit or services we provide, that may limit your accessibility.
  6. Ask for our free interpretation services or free captioning service apps available to use on your smartphone if you are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing.

At SHN we take pride in providing equitable and inclusive care for all. With your help, we can improve our service and provide a safer healthcare environment:

  • Let us know how we are doing by completing our DI Patient Satisfaction Survey
  • Tell us if we can provide better care for you.
  • Ask us questions about anything you don’t understand.
