As we emerge from the pandemic, I am excited to announce that we will soon develop our second Strategic Plan with a renewed focus on  excellence. Building on our successes, SHN will continue to reimagine how we provide healthcare for our diverse community.  

SHN has several transformational projects that I know will have a significant impact on exceptional quality care, health system integration, training the next generation of health professionals, and charting the course to create a healthier community. Some of these include:  

Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre  

This partnership between SHN, the YMCA of Greater Toronto, the United Way of Greater Toronto, and many other community partners will provide opportunities to improve community health.  

Research and Education 

With plans to expand our focus on research and education, we are building a state-of-the-art medical education centre at our Centenary Hospital. This new facility will include space for SHN Research Institute and the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health, offering us a unique opportunity to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. 

Birchmount Hospital Redevelopment 

Following two successful Birchmount Redevelopment Community Forum events in March, we are working hard on space allocation, design requirements, and costing. We are on track to complete our Stage 1.3 Functional Program and submit to the Ministry of Health in June.  

With these projects, we are taking SHN to a new level. We will continue to strive for impact as we work to complete projects already underway, and are excited about the next milestones along our journey as we develop our new Strategic Plan. Stay tuned for Strategic Plan community engagement and feedback opportunities in the coming months.   

With the support of our dedicated and compassionate teams, we know that SHN will accomplish great things as we move towards a more integrated health system, providing exceptional quality care for our diverse community.
