Each year, SHN celebrates Nursing Week in recognition of the hard work and dedication of nurses for their impact on the lives of many members of our community. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the ways in which nurses contribute to exceptional, quality health care 24 hours a day.

This year, Nursing Week celebrations will be held from Monday, May 8 to Friday, May 12, featuring the theme: Our Nurses. Our Future.

From compassionately caring for our patients in the emergency departments, critical care, surgery, medicine units, and every other clinical area across the hospitals, SHN nurses play an integral role in a patient’s healthcare journey.

At SHN, we are proud to celebrate the courage and commitment that our nurses demonstrate to our community every day. We invite you to join us in celebrating our nurses, and thanking them for everything they do.

Messages from our CEO, Chief of Staff, and Chief Nursing Executive

SHN nurses are integral to providing the exceptional quality and compassionate care for which we are known – and it does not go unnoticed by their patients or colleagues. Every day, they uphold our hospital’s mission of Improving lives through exceptional care.

Our nurses are changing lives and changing our community through their work to promote wellness, to address social determinants of health, and achieve the best possible outcomes.

Our nurses make us a better organization.

During Nursing Week, we celebrate your hard work and success, and we thank you for your many sacrifices and dedication to our Scarborough community.

David Graham, President and CEO

Every day I enter our hospitals, I cross paths with a nurse. Be it in one of our concourses, on a patient care unit or in a meeting, I come in contact with one of our more than 2,700 nursing staff on a daily basis. And each time, I am in awe of their wisdom, their patience, their compassion and their skill.

Our SHN nurses are passionate about what they do — and whether it is caring for patients, working in the community, educating future healthcare providers or leading research teams in discovering ways to improve care, we are all grateful for the dedication and commitment they bring to their work.

On behalf of our physicians and medical staff, we can’t thank our nurses enough. You extend remarkable support and expertise in the name of safe, high quality care that I know our medical staff deeply appreciates and respects. Happy Nursing Week!
