The Shoniker Clinic has long history of providing excellent, evidence-based care for youth in our communities of Scarborough, Pickering and Ajax. As a child and adolescent mental health clinic, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of significant mental health challenges. Using a recovery model to reduce symptomology and help youth create a pathway to living a rich and meaningful life.
More about our clinic
You will meet in a private and confidential space to discuss your concerns. Family and care-givers will be involved to the extent that the individual allows/needs. Teaching is a core value of the Shoniker Clinic: Students of various disciplines may be involved in treatment with youth consent.
Please see our Welcome Information Package for more information before your first appointment.
We draw on the expertise of our inter-disciplinary team of our Clerical Staff, Service Navigators, Social Workers, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, a Paediatrician, and other professionals to provide time limited treatment (short-term treatment that does not broach into adulthood) that is geared towards an individual’s needs.
In order to be assessed, clients will:
- Be under the age of 18
- Be a resident of Scarborough (postal codes staring with M1) or West Durham (Pickering and Ajax)
- Experience struggling with life-altering Mental Health symptoms including anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD that greatly impact quality of life
We do not offer assessment and treatment of eating disorders, legal assessments for court proceeding (i.e. forensic or family court), parenting assessment, assessments for insurance companies, Autism assessments, or psychoeducational assessments.
Success at the Shoniker clinic is defined as equipping youth with the skills, resources and resiliency to work towards building a full and meaningful life. This may not mean full symptom resolution. Building confidence and new skills requires full participation in the healing process.
