Notice about RSV
The Ontario Ministry of Health has expanded its RSV prevention program this season to help protect newborns. There are two safe and effective methods available to help prevent RSV infections in infants: 1) vaccination during pregnancy (AbrysvoTM), and 2) monoclonal antibodies (Beyfortus®) given after birth.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends monoclonal antibodies over vaccination during pregnancy based on how well it works, how long the protection lasts, and its safety profile. This is the general recommendation unless the baby is considered to be high risk.
