Toronto City Council unanimously approved lease terms for the Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre (BNC) at their monthly Council meeting earlier today. Scarborough and Rouge Hospital (SRH) along with the YMCA of Greater Toronto welcome this exciting development in the progress of this important community infrastructure project.

“I wish to thank Mayor Tory as well as Councillors Kelly and Lee for their tireless work to make today’s developments a reality. I would also like to thank Council for unanimously supporting this project, which will bring much needed support for community health to the residents of Scarborough,” said Elizabeth Buller, President and CEO of Scarborough and Rouge Hospital.

“Today we recommit ourselves to developing this innovative community health hub in the heart of Scarborough,” said Medhat Mahdy, President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Toronto. “BNC is a project we have championed for many years and the YMCA of Greater Toronto is committed to continuing its work with our partners at SRH, United Way Toronto & York Region and the community on the next stages of this project.”

Following the approval of the leases, SRH and the YMCA of Greater Toronto will develop a reciprocal partnership agreement and will continue exploring a joint approach to planning.

BNC is a joint effort between SRH and the YMCA of Greater Toronto, as well as United Way Toronto & York Region and partner community agencies. Once complete, BNC will be the leading example of integrated health promoting infrastructure in the province of Ontario. BNC will bring together community service and health care providers to promote self-management of healthy living and disease prevention, as well as fostering a healthy community where people can live, work, learn and play.
