Hello to all of our incredible Scarborough Health Network (SHN) supporters. For those of you who do not know me, I’m Alicia Vandermeer, President and CEO of SHN Foundation.

SHN Foundation exists to inspire and mobilize organizations, individuals, and our entire community to support our three Scarborough hospitals through donations.

Last year we launched the momentous Love, Scarborough campaign to raise valuable funds for SHN and spread awareness of the health inequities we face in Scarborough. Love, Scarborough truly resonated with our community, and thanks to those who donated, amplified our message, and attended our events, we raised our first $100 million. But we’re just getting started.

Thanks to our generous donors and the unwavering support of our Scarborough community, we have raised $140 million of our total $200 million fundraising goal. These funds are incredibly important to upgrade our hospital facilities to a level equal to those who live and work here.

As SHN President and CEO David Graham shared with you last month, there are exciting things on the horizon for SHN. Among them is the exciting capital expansion and renewal project that will reimagine our Birchmount Hospital and double its current capacity. Projects like this are critical to allow SHN to care for our community both now and into the future, but they are not possible without donor support. All Ontario hospitals must raise 10 per cent of the total cost of these capital projects, and 100 per cent of funds to purchase new equipment and technology to fill them. That’s why donations are so important.

We’re thrilled that Scarborough is finally getting the world-class facilities to match the exceptional quality care our healthcare teams provide. You can join the Love, Scarborough movement by donating at SHNFoundation.ca/Donate or by joining us for the first-ever SHN ZOO DAY on June 11! SHN ZOO DAY will be a fun-filled and family-friendly walk at the Toronto Zoo, culminating in the Love, Scarborough Festival with food, entertainment, and activities. Register online at SHNZOODAY.ca!

Thank you for all that you do for our SHN hospitals. Together we will build a brighter, healthier future for Scarborough.

Sincerely,

Alicia Vandermeer
