Volunteer Week provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the individual and collective actions of volunteers which create a strong, interconnected, and vibrant community.

During National Volunteer Week 2023, we celebrate the many contributions of approximately 900 volunteers at SHN for their kindness, generosity, and commitment to volunteering. Their daily relations to others through ideas and actions has strengthened our bonds and connected people, strengthening the fabric of our community and vital support networks.

This year’s theme is Volunteering Weaves us Together, which illustrates how volunteering weaves us together. Every volunteer represents an individual thread. Our volunteers’ unique experience, perspectives, and abilities add to our collective resilience and build a stronger fabric. Woven together across our network, volunteering reinforces our ability to grow, thrive, and create change within our community and beyond.

At SHN, our volunteers demonstrate incredible empathy every day. They help with greeting patients and families; assisting with registration and way-finding; staffing our information desks and gift shops; providing patient support and navigation; departmental support; sharing their experiences and insights as patient family advisors to support hospital programs and initiatives; fundraising for the Foundation; and supporting the vital work of our COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics as volunteer navigators. We also recognize the generous contributions of the volunteer members of SHN’s Board of Directors.

Over the course of the week, we will be celebrating the tremendous impact of our volunteers throughout our organization. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating all of our volunteers who are creating a more caring, collaborative, and compassionate community in Scarborough.
