How to exercise safely in the summer heat
Stay hydrated
Drink extra water, unless your doctor has put you on a fluid-restricting diet.
Dress appropriately
Wear clothing with lighter colours and breathable materials.
Work out in the morning and evening
Outdoor activities will be more comfortable when the temperatures are cooler.
Choose indoor alternatives
Check your local community centres for options:
- Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre – take advantage of free walking times (and free parking for 2 hours!)
- Stephen Leacock Community Recreation Centre’s indoor track (view schedule)
- Malls (view maps for walking distances: Agincourt, Bridlewood, Cedarbrae, Eglinton Square, Fairview, Markville, Scarborough Town Centre, Yorkdale)
- Or, follow exercise videos on YouTube (we recommend Leslie Sansone)
Be safe
Check with your doctor before starting a new work-out routine or if you have any health conditions.
