Today is the start of National Nursing Week 2020 (May 11 to 17)! This year’s theme is Nurses: A Voice to Lead ” Nursing the World to Health, which was developed to highlight how nurses are central to addressing a wide range of health challenges.
We are so excited and proud that the World Health Organization (WHO) has also designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse in honour of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. What an incredible way to raise the profile of nurses all around the world and their tireless work to provide care and attention to people in need.
This year, SHN nurses have demonstrated incredible resolve and leadership across all of our programs and specialties – including Blood Services, Cardiology, Clinical Informatics, Critical Care, Emergency, Infection Control, Medical Assistance in Dying, Medicine, Mental Health, Nephrology, Oncology, Palliative Care, Professional Practice, Senior Friendly, Surgery, Quality and Safety, Wound Care, and Women’s and Children’s. As we come together to face the current global pandemic, we’ve seen nurses living our values and responding as the true heroes we know them to be.
