Thyroid Rapid Diagnostic Unit

Through our Dr. Jim Arnott Thyroid Rapid Diagnostic Unit (TRDU), Scarborough Health Network (SHN) offers expedited access to the thyroid surgical program. Our dedicated TRDU nurse navigator will prioritize referrals sent to this specialized unit and arrange for a timely consultation with one of our highly skilled thyroid surgeons.

Our Nurse Navigator will work with the clinical team to minimize wait times for the end-to-end care of our patients’ journey – from the time of initial assessment, investigations (including fine needle biopsy aspiration), surgery (if required), diagnosis and follow up. Our nurse navigator will also coordinate care with members of the multidisciplinary Thyroid Care team including Endocrinology, Diagnostic Imaging and Pathology as necessary.

What We Offer

  • A new model of care that reduces ALL wait times associated with the patient care journey.
  • Improved and expedited access from the time of initial referral, to specialist consultation, to treatment.
  • A dedicated Nurse Navigator to facilitate centralized coordination with the Thyroid Care Team to ensure the most appropriate care is delivered in a timely fashion.

Clinic Hours

The TRDU is open on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
