Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Elaine Yeung as SHN’s new Chief of Staff.

Dr. Yeung will take over from Dr. Albert Lauwers, who led our Medical Advisory Committee and medical staff as interim Chief of Staff until June 30, 2022.

Dr. Yeung brings amazing energy and extensive experience in medical leadership, having served as the first Corporate Chief and Medical Director for the Department of Medicine at SHN since 2019. Key to her role was establishing new initiatives to enhance our ambulatory medicine clinic offerings including SHN SCOPE (Seamless Care Optimizing the Patient Experience) program, a multidisciplinary inflammatory bowel disease clinic, a long COVID clinic, and a COVID-19 therapeutics clinic which has served not only the Scarborough area but also patients from other parts of the GTA.

Threaded through her impressive medical career is Dr. Yeung’s commitment to advocating and lobbying for clinical information systems and other innovative technology to improve clinical outcomes, optimize patient and provider experience, and design more sustainable healthcare systems. This philosophy complemented her work with the Epic Optimization Committee, ensuring a successful go-live in December 2021.

External to SHN, Dr. Yeung is a member of the Ontario Association of Gastroenterology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She has also served on the University of Toronto Division of Gastroenterology Executive and Residency Committees, and was one of the first to offer endoscopic ultrasound services in Ontario (2008).
