Today is the start of National Nursing Week 2022 (May 9 to 15)! This year’s theme is We Answer the Call, which was developed by the Canadian Nurses Association to showcase the many roles that nurses play in a patient’s health care journey.

From compassionately caring for our patients in the emergency departments, critical care, medicine and COVID units, and every other clinical area across the hospitals, to staffing our assessment centres and vaccine clinics and much more, SHN nurses continued to answer the call.Nurses are at the center of our health care systems. You are the smiling faces who greet us at hospitals and clinics. You are the calming voices helping us through our toughest days, and you are the ones who are helping to care for our parents, family members, and loved ones throughout this pandemic.

During Nursing Week, we celebrate your hard work and success, and we thank you for your many sacrifices and dedication to our Scarborough community.

As a nurse myself, I have tremendous respect for each of you. Nursing is wonderfully rewarding, but it can also be tiring and challenging. Your continued display of strength, resilience, compassion and courage is something I admire.

Each day, you embody the values of SHN and I am incredibly grateful to have such a strong and dedicated nursing staff supporting our community. You make us very proud! Our nurses have courageously worked to safeguard the health and well-being of all people in Scarborough, and in particular, the most vulnerable. Your compassion and strength have helped to guide us through pandemic challenges and ensures our patients receive the highest level of care.

On behalf of our physicians and medical staff, we can’t thank our nurses enough. You extend remarkable support and expertise in the name of safe, high quality care that I know our medical staff deeply appreciates and respects. Happy Nursing Week! This week, we celebrate all nurses at SHN, both at the point of care and those working to support, mentor and coach them. Each of you continue to strive to find new, innovative and caring ways, to create strong teams and working in service to others. It is your passion and hard work that will help us shape and transform the future of care.

We see and acknowledge your passion to comfort and provide care, and we are filled with gratitude. It is both humbling and rewarding to work with you every day. More than ever, our nurses have shown us how extremely resilient, dedicated and committed they are, individually and as a team.

Your courage and resolve to make a difference do not go unnoticed as we celebrate you this week and every single day. Thank you for all that you do for SHN and the Scarborough community. “””””””
