Today is the start of National Nursing Week 2021 (May 10 to 16)! This year’s theme is We Answer the Call, which was developed by the Canadian Nurses Association to showcase the many roles that nurses play in a patient’s health care journey. SHN is pleased to support this special day, and invite you to join us in recognizing and thanking all of the skilled and compassionate nurses across our health network.

Messages from our CEO, Acting Chief of Staff, and Interim Chief Nursing Executive

Happy Nursing Week to our incredible team of SHN nurses. As we celebrate Nursing Week, it gives all of us a chance to reflect on the incredible impact our nurses make for our patients and families.

As a nurse myself, I have tremendous respect for each of you. Nursing is wonderfully rewarding, but it can also be tiring and challenging. Your continued display of strength, resilience, compassion and courage is something I admire.

Each day, you embody the values of SHN and I am incredibly grateful to have such a strong and dedicated nursing staff supporting our community. You make us very proud!

” Elizabeth Buller, President and CEO

On behalf of our physicians and medical staff, we can’t thank our nurses enough. Through all of the challenges that you faced this year, you continue to place our patients’ needs as a priority and provide them with the highest level of care.

You extend remarkable support and expertise in the name of safe, high quality care that I know our medical staff deeply appreciates and respects. Happy Nursing Week!

” Dr. Bert Lauwers, Acting Chief of Staff and VP, Medical and Clinical Programs

This year has challenged each and every one of us, especially in health care. More than ever, our nurses have shown us how extremely resilient, dedicated and strong they are, individually and as a team.

You have sacrificed your time with family and friends, and put yourselves at the forefront of a public health crisis in Scarborough. From caring and showing compassion for our patients and families in the Emergency Departments, Critical Care and COVID dedicated units, Medicine and every other clinical care units across the hospitals, to supporting our long-term care communities, to staffing our assessment centres and vaccine clinics, to adapting to a new model of care, and much more, you certainly answered the call for duty.

Your courage and resolve make the difference and do not go unnoticed as we celebrate you this week and every single day. I am honoured and privileged to be your colleague and to stand alongside each of you. Thank you for all that you do for SHN and the Scarborough community.
