Parents of children cared for in Scarborough and Rouge Hospital’s (SRH) three neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) are invited to join staff and physicians at a special event to celebrate World Preemie Day.
The event will provide families, who in some cases spent weeks together in the NICUs, the opportunity to share experiences, see how well each other’s children are thriving, and reconnect with hospital staff and physicians. Families will be treated to refreshments, various games and activities, as well as prizes and giveaways.
World Prematurity Day is a globally-renowned educational event that raises awareness about premature births, while also enhancing and celebrating the lives of “preemies” and their families. Approximately one in 10 babies are born preterm each year worldwide.
SRH has the fourth largest maternal newborn program in Ontario with approximately 6,500 babies born in the hospital’s three birthing units each year and nearly 2,000 babies cared for each year in the hospital’s three NICUs.
