Diane Sinhuber joined the Scarborough Health Network (SHN) Board of Directors in 2022, following a distinguished 38-year career in finance. Her journey to the Board was a natural progression of her commitment to community service, evidenced by prestigious awards like the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award and Ontario Volunteer Service Award.
Between her close family connections within Scarborough (including a family physician who worked at the General Hospital) and her time-honoured volunteerism, notably as Chair of the YMCA of Greater Toronto and the Kidney Foundation of Canada’s boards of directors (both of which have longstanding connections with SHN), Diane has deep ties to the Scarborough community.
At SHN, Diane applies her financial acumen and expertise in community engagement to advance healthcare solutions and community well-being. As the Board liaison to SHN’s volunteer Community Advisory Council (CAC), Diane has helped to reinvigorate the group’s direct connection between SHN and the community. With a blend of experienced prior members and bright new recruits, the CAC represents the impactful voice of the community in helping SHN to shape the future of care.
Diane’s vision for a healthier Scarborough is proactive and practical, championing SHN’s dynamic approach in leveraging research and population health data to identify our community’s greatest needs, and make healthcare more accessible. For example, SHN has become a leading provider of specialized seniors’ care, designing a Seniors Health program tailored to the specific needs of Scarborough’s diverse population of older adults, which is growing quickly. SHN works collaboratively with healthcare and community organizations to help older patients after they leave the hospital, supporting a smooth transition back home, and is continuously exploring new ways to connect seniors to the care they need, inside and outside the hospital.
Driven by a conviction that aligns her resources with her aspirations for community impact, Diane has cemented her commitment to exceptional quality care through the Love, Scarborough fundraising campaign. She is inspired by our grit and resilience, noting this determined spirit is a hallmark of SHN’s organizational culture, from leadership to the front lines.
Diane’s story of heartfelt commitment to governance and community engagement truly brings the essence of SHN’s mission—to improve lives through exceptional care—to life.
