The University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) recently highlighted one of the student clinical internships offered by Scarborough Health Network (SHN) in a new video series which showcases alumni from the university’s health sciences undergraduate program, who are continuing to advance their healthcare education.

One of the videos profiles Yasmine El-Bakri, who is pursuing a graduate degree in physical therapy from U of T and recently completed a practical clinical internship with SHN’s physiotherapy team at General Hospital as a part of her studies.

Yasmine reflects on her academic journey at UTSC and how it prepared her to excel in her Master’s program, illustrated by scenes of her working alongside her preceptor, Sue Abe, a physical therapist at SHN, as they assist a patient.

“As a physical therapist, it goes beyond just the physical. You’re helping patients develop skills that they can use to help themselves, and so I found that it was a very satisfying profession for me,” shared Yasmine.

This video not only celebrates Yasmine’s achievements, but also highlights the exceptional training and hands-on experience provided by our clinical internships at SHN. Watch the full health sciences video series here.

ICYMI: Training the next generation of physiotherapy students

Sue and Chris Jagoe, another physiotherapist and clinic instructor at SHN, were interviewed by UTSC last spring about their approach to clinical teaching. With Sue’s experience in medical surgery acute care and Chris’s expertise in the intensive care unit, they make an unbeatable team. Check out their story here.
