This year is off to a busy start at Scarborough Health Network (SHN). Our momentum in redeveloping Scarborough’s hospitals is growing at an extraordinary pace, thanks to continued support from the Ontario government and SHN Foundation’s Love, Scarborough campaign.
At our General Hospital, we are preparing to open the Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Department next month, which will double our capacity for diagnostic imaging and offer high-tech and accessible services to the community. We look forward to welcoming patients and families into one of the most advanced, modern imaging facilities in Toronto. (If you know a medical radiation and imaging technologist, tell them we are hiring.)
We are also expanding our dialysis units, with renovations to accommodate 27 new hemodialysis stations, including 21 stations at Centenary Hospital and 6 stations at the General Hospital. These additions will expand our Regional Nephrology Program, enabling us to address the high demand for dialysis services, now and for years to come.
Additionally, major work is underway at Centenary Hospital with the new Northpine Emergency Department (ED), for the first time in half a century. Imagine a state-of-the-art ED with seamless patient flow, intuitive navigation, ample isolation rooms, and distinct areas for mental health and paediatric care. One of the first phases in preparing for this work includes realigning the roadway into our parking lot. Check here for details on how to navigate these temporary changes.
As we continue to Build It Forward with these significant upgrades, we are simultaneously preparing for the largest redevelopment in SHN’s history: building a new Birchmount Hospital that will nearly double its current capacity.
This is the future we are building together for Scarborough. Over the next several years, SHN will change the face of healthcare in Scarborough to meet the growing needs of our community for generations to come. Learn more at SHN.ca/BuildItForward.
