Scarborough Health Network (SHN) has appointed Dr. Elan Ambalavanar as the new Chief and Medical Director of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Ambalavanar brings a wealth of experience and a strong background in clinical operations, quality improvement, and healthcare leadership.

Throughout his tenure at SHN, he has been dedicated to improving patient care and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. In his previous role as Associate Medical Director and Co-Chief of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Ambalavanar led critical initiatives, including the design of the new Emergency Department at Centenary Hospital and renovation projects at the Birchmount and General hospitals. His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was instrumental in establishing a satellite Emergency Department and expanding care spaces to manage patient volumes.

SHN has also appointed a new Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Mayoorendra Ravichandiran. Dr. Ravichandiran was previously Interim Co-Chief of Emergency Medicine as well, and has been a dedicated member of our health network for over 20 years. He has been actively involved in healthcare education and research, leading the ultrasound program and overseeing resident research projects.

SHN has also appointed a new Deputy Chief of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Mayoorendra Ravichandiran. Dr. Ravichandiran was previously Interim Co-Chief of Emergency Medicine as well, and has been a dedicated member of our health network for over 20 years.

He has been actively involved in healthcare education and research, leading the ultrasound program and overseeing resident research projects.
