Department of Anaesthesia

Dr. Shehzad Mehmood

Dr. Shehzad Mehmood has joined the Department of Anaesthesia at SHN.

Following his Intensive Care Medicine residency, Dr. Mehmood completed a fellowship in Anesthesiology.  He has experience as an anesthesiologist at Langley Memorial Hospital, BC and University Hospital of Northern British Columbia, BC.  Dr. Mehmood has been involved in peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives. 

Dr. Francis Nguyen Do

Dr. Francis Nguyen Do has joined the Department of Anaesthesia at SHN.

Dr. Nguyen Do completed his Anesthesiology residency at Queen’s University and has led Clinical Clerk Workshops at the School of Medicine, Queen’s University.  He has also been involved in peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives.

Department of Emergency Medicine

Dr. Alan Huynh

Dr. Alan Huynh has joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at SHN.

Following a Family Medicine Residency at the University of Toronto, he completed a Fellowship in Emergency Medicine at McGill University.  Dr. Huynh has been recognized in both of these programs for his clinical teaching, having received the 2023 DFCM Postgraduate Award in Teaching Excellence and being named the 2024 Resident Teacher of the Year by McGill’s Department of Emergency Medicine.  He has also published in peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives.

Dr. Sheena Nandalal

Dr. Sheena Nandalal has joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at SHN. 

Dr. Nandalal completed her medical degree at McMaster University then her Royal College Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Ottawa.  Her clinical interests focus on airway management, trauma care, and pediatric resuscitation, with a particular passion for improving resuscitation care for critically ill patients.

Dr. Kai Yang

D. Kai Yang has joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at SHN.

Dr. Yang completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Calgary.  He has experience as an Emergency physician at Strathmore Hospital, Alberta, a Hospitalist at Peter Lougheed Centre, Alberta and Urgent Care physician at Airdrie Urgent Care Centre, Alberta.  Dr. Yang has been involved in peer reviewed journals. 

Department of Family Medicine

Dr. Rebecca Crawford-Aragones

Dr. Rebecca Crawford-Aragones has joined the Department of Family Medicine at SHN. 

Dr. Crawford-Aragones completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Toronto.  She has experience as an Indigenous Research Assistant at University Health Network (UHN).  Dr. Crawford-Aragones has published in peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives. 

Department of Medicine, Geriatrics

Dr. Dhiviyan Valentine

Dr. Dhiviyan Valentine has joined the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics at SHN.

Following his Internal Medicine residency training at NYU Langone – Woodhull Medical Center, Dr. Valentine completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Ottawa.  Dr. Valentine has published in several peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives.

Department of Medicine, Palliative Care

Dr. Arielle Brickman

Dr. Arielle Brickman has joined the Department of Medicine, Division of Palliative Care at SHN.

Dr. Brickman completed her Palliative Care and Family Medicine Residency training at the University of Ottawa.  She is passionate about teaching and has various teaching experiences in Palliative Care, Family Medicine, and Fall Prevention at Queen’s University and the University of Ottawa.  Dr. Brickman has published in several peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives. 

Dr. Helen James

Dr. Helen James has joined the Department of Medicine, Division of Palliative Care at SHN.

Dr. James completed a Palliative Care and Research fellowship at University Health Network.  Her research interests are in communication with patients and family and in how to teach communication skills to healthcare providers. Dr. James is interested in quality improvements projects and has previously designed quality improvement projects in reducing the fellow’s on-call burden and improving the orientation process. 

Department of Psychiatry

Dr. Angela Han

Dr. Angela Han has joined the Department of Psychiatry at SHN. 

Dr. Han completed her medical training at the University of Toronto, where she served as Chief Resident during her Psychiatry residency.  She has published in peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives.  She is looking forward to joining the department as an outpatient psychiatrist. 

Dr. Clayton Law

Dr. Clayton Law has joined the Department of Psychiatry at SHN. 

Dr. Law completed a Psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto, where he has been nominated for teaching and interprofessional collaboration awards. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Neuroscience from The University of Western Ontario and has published research on the cellular mechanisms underlying memory formation. He has great interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy and motivational interviewing. As a consultation-liaison psychiatrist, he aims to use his broad expertise to treat patients in a holistic manner and help navigate them through challenging illness experiences.

Dr. Law has additional training in Cultural Psychiatry, having completed medical electives in Ethiopia, and various parts of China. He is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. 

Dr. Catherine Wassenaar

Dr. Catherine Wassenaar has joined the Department of Psychiatry at SHN.

Dr. Wassenaar completed a Psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto.  Prior to becoming a physician, she completed a PhD in pharmacogenomics at the University of Toronto. She also has work experience in healthcare consulting. 

Dr. Wassenaar will be seeing children & adolescents at the Shoniker clinic.

Department of Surgery, Orthopaedics

Dr. Fan Jiang

Dr. Fan Jiang has joined the Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedics at SHN. 

After completing an orthopedic residency at McGill University, Dr. Jiang pursued 2-year specialized training in complex spine surgery through a fellowship at Toronto Western Hospital, University of Toronto. He has gained extensive working experience from previous positions in Toronto, Kitchener, and Eastern Canada. Dr. Jiang has been actively involved in various research initiatives, with specific interests in cervical myelopathy, degenerative spine, and deformity.

Department of Surgery, General Surgery

Dr. Nawaf Abu-Omar

Dr. Nawaf Abu-Omar has joined the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at SHN.

Following his General Surgery residency at the University of Saskatchewan he completed a fellowship in Minimally Invasive & Bariatric surgery at McMaster University.  He has served as a General Surgery locum at various hospitals across Ontario, gaining valuable experience in the field. His clinical interests include foregut, colorectal, and bariatric surgery. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Abu-Omar is dedicated to medical education and has actively contributed to peer-reviewed journals and research initiatives.

Dr. Abu-Omar will be joining the newly created Acute Care Surgery Service within the Division of General Surgery. 

Dr. Danielle Mackenzie

Dr. Danielle Mackenzie has joined the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at SHN. 

Following her General Surgery residency at McMaster University, Dr. Mackenzie completed a fellowship in Advanced Gastrointestinal Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Queen’s University.  She has been involved in peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives. 

Dr. Mackenzie will be joining the newly created Acute Care Surgery Service within the Division of General Surgery.  

Dr. James Regan

Dr. James Regan has joined the Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at SHN. 

Following his General Surgery residency at Southern Illinois University-School of Medicine, Dr. Regan completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at Michigan State University.  He has experience as a General Surgery surgeon at Albany Clinic, Toronto, also as an Acute Care surgeon at Butterworth Hospital, Spectrum Health, Michigan and as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Michigan State University. He has been involved in peer reviewed journals and has been involved in research initiatives.     

Dr. Regan will be joining the newly created Acute Care Surgery Service within the Division of General Surgery.
