Scarborough Health Network (SHN) was proudly recognized by Ontario Health’s Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) with the Hospital Achievement Award – Provincial Eligible Approach Rate and the Award of Excellence – Provincial Eligible Approach Rate for the year of 2024 – 2025.
SHN earned the Hospital Achievement Award for meeting the rigorous 90% eligible approach rate target set by TGLN. This award is given to organizations for ensuring that donation discussions are initiated sensitively and consistently with eligible patients and their families at end of life.
Further, we are proud to have met this exceptional standard for five consecutive years now, which earned us the Award of Excellence for meeting provincial eligible approach rate for four or more years in a row.
Compassionate care at life’s most difficult moments
The decision to withdraw life support is one of the most challenging families face. At SHN, a dedicated multidisciplinary team of Critical Care Physicians, Registered Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, and other specialists support patients and their loved ones with compassion and respect. Integral to these conversations is organ and tissue donation: a profound gift that offers hope and new beginnings to countless Ontarians waiting for their second chance at life.
SHN is honoured to champion organ donation as an essential component of quality end-of-life care and remains committed to advancing best practices in this important area.
SHN extends thanks to our Hospital Donation Physician Lead and all members of our Critical Care teams. Their tireless dedication and expertise enable SHN to provide outstanding care and support, making a lasting difference in the lives of patients, families, and the wider Ontario community.
Together, we are shaping the future of compassionate care and saving lives one donation conversation at a time.
