Scarborough Health Network (SHN) welcomed Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones to celebrate our state-of-the-art Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Department at General Hospital on April 24. This milestone highlights the Ontario government’s commitment to bringing world-class diagnostic care closer to home for Scarborough residents.
The newly completed 36,000-square-foot facility has doubled the hospital’s diagnostic imaging capacity. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the department includes two MRI machines (including Scarborough’s first 3-Tesla MRI), an innovative breast imaging center, and advanced suites for nuclear medicine, CT scans, ultrasound, and radiology.
“The opening of the Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Concourse marks a major step forward in our commitment to delivering faster, more accessible, and more compassionate care for the people of Scarborough,” said David Graham, President and CEO, SHN.
This project was made possible through a provincial investment of $36.6 million, the Love, Scarborough campaign, and a transformative gift from the Northpine Foundation.
“We’re deeply grateful to the Government of Ontario for their investment in this project, and to our partners at the Northpine Foundation for their ongoing support. Together, we’re building the future of health care in this community,” added David.
The expansion ensures faster, more efficient care for families in Scarborough and beyond, and strengthens our ability to deliver exceptional health services.
In addition to Minister Jones, SHN welcomed Minister Vijay Thanigasalam, MPP Scarborough-Rouge Park; Minister Raymond Cho, MPP for Scarborough North; Aris Babikian, MPP for Scarborough-Agincourt; John and Cathy Phillips, Northpine Foundation; and John Tory, Former Mayor of Toronto and Foundation Campaign Cabinet.
