Elizabeth Buller, SRH President and CEO, reflects on the hospital’s first year.

Happy birthday Scarborough and Rouge Hospital! December 1st marks one year since our three sites came together as one extraordinary health network to serve Scarborough’s vibrant and diverse community. Today, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize a few of the many achievements that were made possible by the efforts of our incredible team.

Valuing the perspectives of our patients and families

Providing Patient and Family Centred Care remains a cornerstone of what we do. We have launched a new Patient and Family Advisory Council and are currently in the process of forming an SRH Community Advisory Council.

Governments focus on Scarborough

We are receiving tremendous support from our government partners towards modernizing our facilities: $2.7 million in grants for redevelopment and expansion, and a $20 million commitment for a diagnostic imaging concourse at our General site.

We also have a commitment from our partners at the Province and City of Toronto to expand services within our Chronic Kidney Disease program as part of the innovative Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre.

One generous donor community

To support SRH, our two generous donor families merged to create the Scarborough and Rouge Hospital Foundation. Our Foundation has launched the “It’s Our Time” campaign to raise $90 million to build world class health care facilities for Scarborough.

Planning for the future

We are embarking on our first strategic plan and launching a branding campaign to create a compelling “look and feel” for our organization.

As well, we are developing a long term facilities plan which will focus on improving our existing facilities and create a blueprint for a new health network in Scarborough.

As we begin to develop this bold roadmap for the future, your voice will be crucial and there will be many chances for you to get involved and stay updated. We will be sharing more details in the very near future.

It is an honour for me to be part of such an exceptional team. I truly believe Scarborough and Rouge Hospital has the energy and potential to transform the role of a community hospital in Ontario, creating a health network that can be a model for our province and our country.

Thank you for your continued support that has helped our hospital grow together. I look forward to building on the tremendous accomplishments of the past year to revolutionize health care in Scarborough.
