Opening the Community Mental Health Centre
SHN’s donor-funded Community Mental Health Centre opened its doors in June 2024. For the first time, this facility brings together ambulatory and community outpatient mental health services previously spread across all SHN hospitals and community locations into one shared location at 1940 Eglinton Ave. E.
Upgrading emergency departments at Birchmount, General hospitals
The emergency departments (ED) at our Birchmount and General hospitals were retrofitted to enable AcceleratED Care: a new patient experience that changes the very nature of how emergency healthcare is delivered, including reimagining ED design.
Expanding dialysis centres at Centenary, General hospitals
With support from the Government of Ontario, SHN is renovating our Regional Nephrology Program to accommodate 27 new hemodialysis stations, including 21 stations at Centenary Hospital and six stations at General Hospital. The new stations will address the high demand for dialysis services and meet the ongoing needs of patients and their families in Scarborough, now and for years to come.
Opening the Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Department
In February 2025, SHN welcomed patients into the new Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Department at General Hospital. The 36,000-square-foot space is one of the most modern imaging facilities in Toronto, featuring innovative technology, equipment, and services, and doubled the footprint of imaging services at the hospital.
